Caution: Watch for painter lifts in parking lot, new traffic patterns
As students drive onto campus today, they may notice a lot of activity in the parking lots and meeting areas, including painter lifts in the traffic pattern and preparations for the Kim Walker Smith concert, Sept. 25.
Take caution as painters are in a lift, putting a fresh coat on the light poles on campus. They will be in various spots in the parking lot all week. Please drive with caution and at a lower speed.
I did not know they are repainting all of the light poles in the parking lot,” Shauna Howard, ’20, said. “However, I am glad that our school keeps renewing facilities and area of campus.”
Former campus parent Matt Markarian is the Peoples Church community outreach coordinator and and now is in his 21st year as boys’ soccer coach.
“We continue to beautify our campus,” Markarian said. “It is our goal for people to come to our campus and for it to be a beautiful, distraction free environment for people to experience Christ.”
The G.L. Johnson (GLJ) chapel is getting a new entry way beginning this morning, too. A tile company will be on campus all week and for the beginning of next week, replacing the black slate entry way to a new shiny entry way “with a little surprise.”
“We are replacing the black slate entry way to our GLJ chapel,” Markarian said. “Like any project on our busy campus, it requires some juggling of schedules and flexibility by everyone. We do have a very special surprise planned with the tile that will accentuate the building even more. You are going to want to make sure you stop by in the next few weeks to see it.”
As a regular Peoples Church attendee, Reece Trevino, ’19, looks forward to the changes and upgrades of the campus facilities.
“I’m very excited for the new SMC main room,” Trevino said. “As a member of the worship team, I’m glad they added a new acoustic treatment to the main room. It will make the sound in the room sound much smoother.”
If students need to come and go out of the GLJ, please use the side doors and not the front entrance for all access. The Peoples Church staff will make sure the entry way is smooth and safe for entry on Sunday for Church gatherings, although it will not be completely done.
The Student Ministries Center (SMC) is nearing completion. The final material should be here this week and the church hopes to get that project completed very soon.
Please be advised that the PC gym restrooms will be closed today except for lunchtime. The crew and helpers for the Kim Walker Smith concert tonight, Sept. 25, will be utilizing them for showering, etc. If students have a PE class or other activity in or near that gym today, please use other restrooms on campus.
The extra buses and traffic on campus is for the Kim Walker Smith On My Side Tour concert tonight at Peoples Church. Doors open at 6 p.m. and concert starts at 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at the church office. Tickets for the On My Side Tour, can be purchased online, including the Sept. 25 date, range from $19.95 when purchased as a 4-pack, $24.95 for general admission and $39.94 for a deluxe package for early entry and pre-show Q&A. They are in the process of preparing the auditorium for tonight’s concert. Students who need to be in the main lobby or auditorium for any reason, please be aware of all the extra activity.
