The campus Academic Decathlon [AcaDec] traveled to Pasadena for a study trip on Dec. 2-4 in preparation for the January competition.
AcaDec allows students to study information covering ten subjects, from art and music, to math and science. Students involved prepare for a daylong series of tests over the subjects on Jan. 28 and Feb. 4 at Fresno State University.
?These trips are partly just for fun,? Molly Sargent, AcaDec coach, said. ?But I feel that an important part of learning about art is seeing it in person.?
The class left for Pasadena early in the morning for the Norton Simon Museum to view Renaissance art, the class?s study focus for the year. The remaining hour was spent exploring the expanses of impressionist art and the sculpture garden.
?I had never been to the Norton Simon,? Cheryl Pohl, high school secretary, said. ?It was nice and I felt it had a lot to offer.?
The class planned to spend three hours of the following day at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art [LACMA].
