Megan Raynes, ’19, creates churro Chex-mix in home economics block period baking lab, Oct. 12.
Students combine rice and corn Chex-mix with caramel, cinnamon and sugar in a sheet tray. After baking the churro flavored mixture, the result is a caramelized cinnamon treat.
Amanda Grimmius, ’19, really enjoyed creating the cinnamon treats and thinks they are perfect for fall,
“I really enjoyed this lab because it’s fun to be in the kitchen and work as a team to make some thing together,” Grimmius said. “Using cinnamon really starts it make it feel, and smell, like fall! My favorite part about baking days are getting to see the finished products.”
Every block period Kimberly Bell, home economics teacher, schedules a baking lab for her class. Students practice their caramelizing technique to prepare for upcoming holiday gifts.
