Boys and girls segregated on Nov. 28, by wearing pink and blue to support their teams. Coming together in the new gym, the Pretty Pink Princess, representing the varsity volleyball, played a volleyball game verses the Big Blue Boys who played on behalf of the varsity football team.
The girls all sat to one side of the bleachers while the boys where on the other side of the gym cheering their side. The girls beat the boys in two sets. The first game was 25-13 and the second one was closer but the girls took it again, 27-25.
Scott Falk, senior bible teacher, was chosen by both teams to be a fair referee.
“The crowd was definitely a factor,” Falk said. “The big blue boys drew two penalties for this problem. The crowd normally is not supposed to influence me as a ref but they did by bribery. The girls definitely dominated, but I was very surprised how well the boys played; they were for sure better than in past years. I was surprised to have to make calls that you normally never see one of which was off sides a holding. Being the official I made the call as I saw the need.”
The varsity girls’ team was able to play without their head coach, Larry Orrender, present. The seniors and their captain, Jennifer Jesser, ?02, led them.
“I had a lot of fun beating the boys despite all of the trash talking and kidnapping,” Jesser said. “It feels good to actually beat them in something. I will enjoy watching them make us breakfast.”
Before the game took place, 12 gold fish were prepared for the each player of the losing team to eat. The administration found that was unsanitary so it was dismissed.
The captains from each team will meet together and decide when the breakfast will take place. The varsity football team since they lost the game will make the girls breakfast one morning before school.
“The game itself was great fun,” team captain, Anthony Pellouso, ’02 said. “I always enjoy playing volleyball, and Amber (Dragoo, ’02) and Dani (Fries, ’02) bring it, I can dig it for days. I hope the girls enjoy their fish omelets for breakfast as they celebrate the big win for them.”
Adminstration allowed the student body an activity schedule so they were able to watch the game.
“I think the game was somewhat unfair because Mr. Falk was bought off by both sides,” Brandon Nimon, ’03, said smiling. “I think the boys would of won if this hadn’t happened.”
If one would like to see this annual game, the Pretty Pink Princesses verses the Big Blue Boys will return next year after both teams have finished their seasons. It is an annual event that takes place on campus.
