BRIEF: Students and Feather staff enter Christmas vacation

Schedules for sports teams, other events during break

After a semester packed full of activities and school events, The Feather Online’s staff will be taking a break along with the rest of the student body for Christmas vacation, Dec. 18 – Jan. 8, 2018.

This year, Feather staffers covered events from homecoming week to Fresno SJV Town Hall events. From the first girls tennis playoff game on campus in years to the Eagles football championship game, The Feather also kept students updated on campus sports, upcoming activities and spotlighted stories on individual students and staff.

While classes may be out until January, many students participating in sports will have a busy schedule this Christmas.

Over break, girls and boys varsity soccer teams have an away game at Coast Union, Jan. 5. The soccer teams also competed in the annual Garces Tournament, where the girls team placed second and the boys team placed third.

The Eagles basketball teams have a packed schedule ahead of them as they prepare to play several games over break. The JV boys, varsity girls and varsity boys basketball teams have home games against Alpaugh and Frasier Mountain, Dec, 21-22.

In preparation for their upcoming season, the campus baseball team has began workouts to develop a reliable pitching staff. Head baseball coach Noah Heinz recruited retired professional pitcher Bobby Jones to assist with training. Workouts began Dec. 4 and will continue through Christmas break to prepare player’s arms and refine their mechanics.

AP Literature students are assigned to read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley over break. Students will discuss and analyze the novel after coming back to school. AP United States History students are assigned to complete two study guides in preparation for their next unit.

The Feather Online was recently nominated for a Crown by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA). Next semester, Feather advisers, photojournalists, video journalists and editors will travel to New York to receive the award from the CSPA organization.

We hope everyone has a very merry Christmas and happy New Year to renew, refresh and enjoy time with family and get some rest and relaxation. The editors would like to thank Feather staffers for their dedication this semester and we look forward to another great semester when we come back from break.

Please leave a comment below as to your favorite moment or memory from the first semester. We’d love to hear from you this Christmas break.
