High school varsity cheer squad, coached by head coach Hope Villines and assistant coaches Rayna Endicott and Courtney Raymundo, participates in an extra-lengthy practice in anticipation for their upcoming competition season, Oct. 24.
Cheerleaders practice from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. every Wednesday to perfect their competition routine. The team’s complicated routine is choreographed by Juan Lopez, an instructor at Cheer Force Central Valley.
Jewel Chandler, ’21, looks forward to show off new skills the team has learned during practice this year.
“I joined cheer because I love the sport and the opportunity to bond with all of my friends,” Chandler said. “I’m super excited to show the judges what we have accomplished this year. I’m also looking forward to getting to cheer with my teammates on the mat for the first time this year. My favorite thing about cheer is how you can always improve on something wether it’s jumps, stunting or tumbling, you can always become better which drives me to try my hardest.”
The girls will continue working on their routines until it deemed flawless by coaches and choreographers. They will keep practicing up to their first CIF competition of the year at Buchanan High School, Dec. 1.
