‘Students With Jobs,’ a series from staffer Braden Bell, ‘20, exists to promote various businesses from around the Central Valley while highlighting the involvement of individual campus students.
Over the summer, the Taiwanese tradition of rolled ice cream hit the Central Valley. Providing a fresher and healthier alternative to ice cream, the community was intrigued. After seeing the success, many companies decided to integrate the ice cream into their menus or start up new business completely.
Junior and senior duo, Deborah Ingerson and Angelica Escalera share their passion for working at Jabin Ice Cream Roll & More. At the corner of Friant and Fort Washington, Jabin features five rolled ice cream tables and a menu full of various flavor combinations and crafted beverages. To view the full menu, click here.
First starting in January of 2018, Deborah Ingerson, ’20, feel it is important for students to have jobs.
“I think it is important for students to have jobs because they teach many important life lessons,” Ingerson said. “I like that I get to be around a community of people, learn to manage my money and work for a manager. It can be hard sometimes because you get a lack of sleep or miss out on school opportunities but in the end, its worth it.”
Aside from working, Ingerson and Escalera like to stay involved in the school’s extracurricular activities. Whether that be through sports, ensemble, worship team or sister to sister these girls enjoys keeping busy.
After hearing about the job opportunity from Deborah, Angelica Escalera, ’19, immediately made a decision to work at Jabin looking forward to making some money while hanging out with her friend.
“My main job is rolling ice cream,” Escalera said. “We also work with the register and food preparation. Through all of these jobs, I have learned how to build relationships, work with money and work with people. It’s good for students to have jobs because they teach us many things needed for the future.”
