Churches from around Fresno County bring their junior high and high school students to Hume Lake Christian Camps for winter camp, Jan. 11-13.
Over 800 kids from 15 churches from Fresno gather for the weekend retreat in the Sierra Nevadas. Unlike the other weeks of camp where churches from various cities travel to come for camp, churches of many denominations in Fresno unite and travel to Hume on the same weekend.
Students take part in many activities including sledding, ice skating, broom hockey, and snowball fighting. Campers also get the opportunity to attend chapels, listen to speakers and worship with other students from many schools around Fresno.
Involved in activities such as water polo at Buchanan High School, Luke Fennacy, ’19, appreciates the opportunity the retreat gives to be in community with friends and peers.
“I love Hume because you’re away from home and it’s a beautiful place,” Fennacy said. “You always have friends here and Hume’s a really fun area to be in, everyone’s really nice to be around and there’s so many activities to partake in.”
