The fourth annual Valentine’s Day concert is held in the Student Ministries Center, Feb. 9. Concert choir and ensemble members sing a variety of love, breakup and friendship songs, all celebrating Valentine’s day.
Soloists, duets and groups perform, alongside a band of alumni and friends of the choral department. Groups and family of the performers enjoy the fully decorated venue, with a dessert of cheesecake served by the junior high choir. The night of music comes with no charge to the audience, only a request for donations to the choral department.
The Valentine’s Day concert began in 2016 with just the ensemble as the group prepared for their first Carnegie Hall trip. As the concert gained popularity, both choir and ensemble began to sing solos, duets and group numbers.
Senior, Landon Goldsborough, joined choir this year. Singing two songs, he both began and ended the concert.
“With it being my first year in choir, it was a good experience to sing at the Valentine’s day concert.” Goldsborough said. “The atmosphere was really supportive. Looking back, I wish I would have been in choir last year as well.”
Some of the songs played at the concert include, ‘Fly Me to The Moon’, by Frank Sinatra, ‘I See The Light’, from Disney’s Tangled, ‘Stay’, by Rihanna, and ‘All I Ask of You’, from Phantom of the Opera.
