Jim Jakobs, ABC30 Assistant News Director, and FCS alumna April Ghan, ‘92, ABC30 producer, visit the lab during first and second period to share their personal experiences in the world of journalism, Feb. 19.
With Scholastic Journalism Week in full force, The Feather invites ABC30 Assistant News Director and producer to meet with the team. Staffers have a chance to ask questions, exploring topics such as how media and journalism go hand in hand, and how to detect fake news.
One of Jakobs’ biggest encouragements to students is read and engage.
“Have a bigger perspective on things, new judgment,” Jakobs said. “You can’t have that perspective unless you have that knowledge. You have to read.”
Along with sharing words of encouragement, both share a glimpse of what their regular work day looks like. Ghan explains how her work schedule is all over the place do to the nature of her journalistic job. She goes on to tell how her hours spent scheduling, could be ruined in a matter of seconds if a breaking story takes place.
