Students in history teacher Kori Friesen’s United States history class begin writing a five page long journal about a character’s experience in The Great Depression, Feb. 27.
For the project, students write a journal as if they were a person who lived during the 1930s. They include historical information along with their own made up personal stories to the entries.
This assignment corresponds with The Great Depression unit the students are currently studying.
Sophomore Caleigh Alday believes this project benefits her understanding of the curriculum.
“When Mrs. Friesen explained this project I was very excited,” Alday said. “I have always loved history and was really anxious to dive into what the Great Depression really was. Becoming an actual person in the mid 1900’s will help me really understand what they actually went through. Whether it be financial or emotional needs. This really helps me see the actual depression lying in people’s lives living on the streets.”
