A team of seven girls dressed in black gowns will twirl blue and gold flags to the rhythm of Elton John?s ?Tiny Dancer,? at Clovis East High School in the west gym on Feb. 9, 7 P.M.
A panel of six judges will critique the team in seven categories. These include: movement, general effect, composition and design, equipment, ensemble analysis, timing and time penalty for the color guard?s three minute ten second routine.
While the members of the guard were disappointed with their 15th place finish against 16 other groups two weeks ago, they appear optimistic for their upcoming performance.
?Our last competition was discouraging because we got a bad placing in our division,? Katie Walker, ?07, said. ?We have been practicing and I know we are going to do better this time. All of the girls are determined to make the performance look clean and I believe that we will be successful.?
The team tries to gain experience with each performance and to progress in standing.
?It is challenging for me to because I have never been in charge of the color guard,? coach Chris Rice said. ?I have been in charge of the winter guard for eighteen years at a different campus, but this is fairly new to me. The majority of the girls are inexperienced and so their basics foundation is limited. We will get better with time.?
