Fresno Christians cross country team works together through a time of uncertainty to maintain comradery. Due to Covid-19, many obstacles made it even harder for their team to compete. With lots of work, time and practice, the team was able to have a season.
With five athletes on the team, Bryce Foshee, Christian Dye, Dawson Lieser, Noah Howard and Emma Connolly, each athlete competes individually.
Cross country was the first sport able to compete this year and started on Feb. 10. Middle school Bible and social studies teacher as well as cross country coach, James Garcia, expresses his love for cross country and why he decided to coach.
“The companionship of the team and the running was very enjoyable,” coach Garcia said. “Being able to empower students to believe in themselves and pushing their body to the limit they didn’t know they could do.”
Many students on the team are experiencing something new through cross country. This is some of the athletes’ first time dedicated to running as an official sport. It excited Garcia and inspired him to pursue coaching.
On Wednesday, March 17th cross country meets on campus for their WSL league meet. They’ll go up against 8 different schools including FCS. The meet started around 3:30 on the Fresno Christian campus.
