In commemoration of the end of the year, student leadership is putting on a Field Day on May 4. Students will be encouraged to participate in games and events, but are not required to engage.
During recent years, spirit week celebrates the election of the next year?s student body leaders. Due to the lack of candidates, this event will recognize the close proximity of summer and say farewell to the graduating class.
“Spirit week is centered around the election process,” Jeremy Ramos, ASB president, said. “With the lack of student involvement and enthusiasm, we had to settle for one day of activities.”
Among the students running for offices are: junior Sammie Krikorian for president, Matt Nickel, ’08, and sophomores Kevin Damm and Scott Orcutt for vice president, Jackie Cowin, ’10, for secretary and Brittany Schaffer, ’09, for treasurer.
“Being vice president will allow me to help the student body and fill in for the president when he or she is gone,” Orcutt said. “I will have more responsibility than the average student member.”
Unlike rallies, every student has the opportunity to participate in inflatable games such as a bungee run and jousting. A dunk tank will also be available for a small fee.
“A rally’s purpose is to honor or commend a sports team usually,” Ramos said. ” A field day’s purpose is to provide the student body with an opportunitiy to have a fun day during the last days of school.”
Instead of purchasing lunch from the campus lunch truck, leadership will be selling pizza for $1 per slice and drinks for $0.50. In addition, there will be cotton candy and snow cones for sale.
“I am looking forward to field day,” Natalie McCallum, ’09, said. “It is a great day to spend time with my friends.”
