The beginning of dawn peak over the edge of the horizon, as the city that never sleeps already bustling with life, remains unaware of the familiar hero that looms above.

Every inch of him the “friendly neighborhood Spiderman” they know and love, but he is different somehow. Gone is the infamous red and blue suit, replaced with a new uniform, black as night.

So begins the newest installment to the Spiderman saga. The film made its debut May 4, but many fans stood in line for several hours on May 3 for the premier midnight show.

Unlike the previous two films, Spiderman 3 brings new challenges for both Peter Parker and Spiderman (Toby Maguire) Much of the movie features his struggle with his blossoming relationship with Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst).

Parker’s inner struggle continues with the new film, now at its peak. When the true killer of his uncle is revealed, he must face the gripping force of revenge.

Blind to the terrible path his emotions attempt to lead him down, Spiderman becomes ugly. As the man behind the mask, Peter must learn to overcome his hatred and maintain heroic integrity.

Since the new film takes on a change of focus from action to drama and romance, much of the original Spiderman audience will find disappointment in the new sequel. Fans in search of a more upbeat film packed with action should look elsewhere.

Spiderman 3 comes to an exciting close that will awe viewers as Spiderman leaps into combat against not one, but two new villains.

The infamous Venom (Topher Grace) makes his first appearance on the big screen. Depicted as a cocky young photographer who will do anything to make it in the New York papers, the horrific transformation from Eddie Brock makes Venom one of the most menacing villains to date.

For the more dedicated Marvel fans, Spiderman co-creator Stan Lee makes a brief appearance in the new film. He has made similar appearances in the previous movies, but this is the only time he has ever given himself a scene with dialogue.

With constant representations of light and dark, good and evil, Spiderman 3 presents a theme of redemption. It leaves the viewer awed and inspired in a very different way than the previous films.

Spiderman 3 was a great success and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a more emotion driven movie. It was suitable for any age, young and old and makes for fantastic entertainment.

The film is rated PG-13 due to sequences of intense action violence.
