While many students appreciate the small size of the campus, several new students become intimidated by the unfamiliar surroundings. In order to allieviate their fears, student leadership plans to host the annual new student luncheon in the Ground Zero cafe on Aug. 24.
As the first event of the year for the leadership team, the luncheon provides information about the campus as well as the chance for the new students to meet the members of student leadership.
“The main goal of the luncheon is to get the new kids acquainted and engaged,” Natalie McCallum, ’09, said. “This has been a school tradition for longer than I have been here.”
Student leadership sent individual letters to each new student as a personal invitation to the luncheon.
“I was surprised to receive the letter,” Rebekah Wells, ’11, said. “I didn’t expect such a warm invitation from the school.”
With a beach theme for decorations, the luncheon will include free pizza and numerous games for the new students.
“I will mostly miss my friends from Central but my parents and I decided it was best to go to FCS,” Kirapreet Singh, ’08, said. “From what I’ve heard so far, the new student luncheon sounds cool.”
Student leadership expects up to 50 students to attend the luncheon.
“When they find similarities with each other, they will make friendships that will last a life time,” McCallum said. “They will also get to know what FC is all about and how we are unfied and what we stand for.”
Student leadership will host the Night Rally on Aug. 30.
