Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam, and Indonesia are a few of the nationalities represented on campus. Over ten foreign students attend the school, bringing with them cultural flair and diversity.
Senior Ieroon Jung, native of Korea, has lived in the United States for seven years. She has attended campus since sixth grade.
?I like the general mood of the school,? Jung said. ?Everyone is delightful, and happy. The Christian fellowship is encouraging as well.?
When Jung first arrived, her inclination towards art helped her overcome her limited English and made it easier to relate to classmates. Jung?s plans to stay in the US after high school and hopes to major in art.
?In 6th grade, my first year at FCS, I couldn?t speak English very well,? Jung said. ?So I drew pictures and gave them as gifts to my classmates. This helped me make friends.?
Junior Ngoc Bich Nguyen has lived in the San Joaquin Valley for seven months. She learned English in Vietnam, but fluency and writing only developed towards the end of her required language education.
?In Vietnam we only learned English one hour a day and it was very hard to understand,? Nguyen said. ?The classes were very different. We stayed in one class all day and the teachers came for each period.?
Despite limited English, Nguyen perseveres through many challenging classes such as physics and Algebra II.
?When teachers talk fast and use big words, it is hard to understand. But my classmates are nice and will explain if I ask for help,? Nguyen said. ?The people here are really friendly too.?
Nova Konstantia, ?08, relocated from Indonesia one and half years ago. Her favorite subject is Spanish and she likes to play volleyball and swim in her free time.
?I like Spanish because the spelling is almost the same as Indonesian,? Konstantia said. ?It?s also easier than English. The students and teachers here are very patient with my English.?
Taiwan natives, twins Jennifer and Peter Yang, ?09, moved to America one year ago, in search of better education. They attended Clovis West High School last year, but transferred to this campus in search of a friendlier atmosphere.
?My favorite subject is definetly math. I am in trigonometry and I like Mr. Fenton,? Jennifer said. ? FC is a better school for me then Clovis West because the people are more friendly.?
Christina Lumeya, the French teacher, strongly encourages students to travel.
?If I had not traveled when I was young, I would not have learned French and English properly. I have been able to work in five different countries as well,? Madame Lumeya said. ?There is a lot to gain from traveling.?
