The Feather team participated in the 6th annual Fresno City College High School Journalism Day, March 1. FCC opens up their campus to about 100 High School students. The remaining high school journalism teams located near Fresno assemble to grow in their media skills, ranging from broadcasting to writing to photography. Professionals in these fields also come to campus to share their knowledge and grow the interest for news in High School students.
One class focused on the power of social justice in the media. Following the theme of inequality and marginalization, this class shared to put yourself in the shoes of others, and even though it won’t always be comfortable, something has to change for society to change.
Being a member of the small percentage of the diversity at Fresno Christian, Feather student Sanjay Stephen, ’24, attended this social justice class.
“The class showed us the importance of giving a voice to individuals or groups who are usually silenced,” Sanjay Stephen said.
One other class focused on the power of youth in the media. The goal is to encourage students to be confident with their voices, and make their voices impossible to ignore. Everyone has a story to tell and deserves to be heard.
