While Back to School Night allows parents to evaluate campus atmosphere, many grandparents’ desire the same opportunity. All grandparents are invited to attend three periods with kin for the 16th annual Grandparents’ Day on Sept. 28.

?I want my grandma to experience high school again,? Kelsey Gunner, ?11, said. ?She?s never been to a Christian high school and I want her to be able to experience a small part of my life.?

Grandparents are expected to arrive by 9 A.M. and will listen to a presentation in Ground Zero, then attend three classes with the students before sharing a lunch together.

“It?s fun to hang out with my grandparents,? Jason Herron, ?09, said, ?and Grandparents? Day is a day for my grandparents to experience a little of what I go through every day.?

Principal Gary Schultz is also looking forward to getting out of the office to and eating lunch with his grandchildren.

“I am excited to join the visitors to campus and just be a grandpa for an hour with Devon (Schooler) and Kamryn (Schultz). This affords me the opportunity to experience campus life from the ‘other side.'”

While over 500 grandparents plan to attend, some are unable to come, due to various complications. Senior Jong Hyun Cho?s grandparents? inability to attend is credited to them living in Korea.

?I can?t have my grandparents here for Grandparents? Day,? Cho said, ?even though they can?t be here. I like the idea of honoring your elders and will remember them this Sept. 28.?

Teachers also get a chance to enjoy Grandparents? Day, such as English teacher Molly Sargent.

?I really enjoy the chance to meet the students? grandparents,? Sargent, said. ?It gives me a chance to meet a part of who raised the student, along with the students? better behavior in front of their family.?

In honor of the event, the home economics class will bake over 100 dozen cookies including peanut butter, oatmeal raisin, brown sugar walnut, chocolate chip and snicker doodle.

“The elderly need to eat too,” Ronnie Giannetta, ’08, said. “It’s fun to make a large batch of cookies, because we get to eat the leftovers.”

?I really love Grandparents’ Day,” Malachi Romero, ?10, said. ?I don?t see my family much and this is a good opportunity to be with my grandma. Plus, the free hotdogs are a plus.?
