WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR MAY 3

SOLI DEO GLORIA’S SPRING CONCERT
University Presbyterian Church
choir will hold a performance at 7 p.m., May 4. The event is directed by Artistic Director Julie Carter. The choir will feature Clovis composer Kevin Memley in a piece called “Silence”, and other sacred pieces. The song list will compose of folksongs from Brazil, Canada, Finland, the U.S. and the Czech Republic. Guest artists of the performance are the Maple Creek Elementary Chorus directed by Stephanie Grogg.

ABC30 AIRS FEATHER NATIONAL HONORS
A local TV station, ABC30, showcased The Feather awards from the JEA/NSPA Journalism Convention. KFSN-TV aired a .40-second story on Fresno Christian High’s online newspaper winning its 5th Online Pacemaker and Best of show during its May 2, 5 p.m. broadcast. Staffers were in San Francisco for the three-day convention, competing against online newspapers from across the United States, April 24-28. Those who would like to read about the competition can do so Feather wins NSPA Pacemaker, Best of Show (VIDEO). If viewers watch the short video segment in the education section, please leave a comment on the local ABC station, letting them know you saw it.

JUNIOR WINS CLOVIS OLD WEST ART SHOW
Junior Shannon Martens won a $100 scholarship and $50 gift certificate to Allards at the 46th Old West and Rodeo Art Show, April 23. She was one of seven students who entered the student scholarship competition at the show, sponsored by the Clovis Art Guild.

Martens art work is on display April 23-28 at Clovis Veteran’s Memorial Building in downtown Clovis. Her watercolor painting is called Morning Mail. Two other students from other high schools also won. Six other FC students and students from Clovis High, Clovis East, and Buchanan participated. Campus art teacher Sharon Scharf also had paintings on display; she is a member of the Clovis Art Guild.

ACSI ART SHOW
Congratulations to Vanessa Shubin ’16 for winning Best of Show in the ACSI Art Festival.

JOURNALISM FIELD TRIP, April 24-28
The National Scholastic Press Association and the Journalism Education Association is hosting their national journalism convention in San Francisco April 24-28, 2013. The leadership of the NSPA/JEA has also asked The Feather Online to present a few sessions during the convention; they are encouraging us to share our expertise from our online experience in podcasting and our online system. The convention is a great way to improve your ability in journalism. See Greg Stobbe for more details.

CSF CONFERENCE
FCS won the CSF Quiz Bowl for the second year in a row against Gustine High at El DIamante HS in Visalia on April 20. The individual champions are Mckay Mohun ’13, Ashley Erickson ’13, and Suzy Carroll ’14.

CSF CLUB
CSF will be hosting their annual Cinco de Mayo lunch, May 6. The meal will consist of cheese enchiladas, chips, salsa, beans, lemonade and dessert. The cost of the lunch is $6. For teachers the meal is free as a thank you.

SPANISH CLUB
Spanish club will be hosting an event during lunch time in honor of Cinco de Mayo, May 6. A mariachi band will be playing along with a song sang by the spanish classes.

UC Berkeley is hosting their annual Cal Day on April 20 from 9-4 p.m. for prospective students and their families. The cost of admission is free. If you are interested you can go to their website here for more information or see Michelle Warkentin.

CSF REGIONAL CONFERENCES
The Regional Conferences will be held in Visalia on Saturday, April 20, at Diamante High School from 7:30am-4:00pm. Transportation will not be provided.

SENIORS
If you have applied for Fresno City or Willow International and have taken the placement test, the next step is to register for classes. Our date to register is April 24. On this day you will attend an informational meeting and sit down with a college counselor to register for classes. More information to follow.

CSF TUTORING
Anyone in need of tutoring for any subject can come and be tutored for free, or if you are looking to get some community service hours you can also sign up to be a tutor. Tutoring will be held in Molly Sargent’s room, 621, Wednesday’s 3-4 p.m. by members of CSF.

FIVE-MINUTE MILE CLUB
P.E. teacher Michael Ogden is hosting a challenge to high school students. Run a mile under 6 minutes and join an elite group of athletes. Congrats to the first three members of the 5-minute mile club (5:59 or less). If you see the following three freshman students, congratulate these on their accomplishments.

SPORTS PHYSICALS
We have scheduled sports physicals with Dr. Gonzales for May 9 in rooms 621 & 623. 6 to 7 p.m.

SPORT CLOTHES
All changes for sports in the should be in the gym, not in the Building 6 bathrooms. The bathrooms are open to the public utilizing Peoples Church, and not the locker rooms. Backpacks, duffle bags, computers, purses, etc. are not secure.

ATTENDANCE CALLS
Parents, be sure to call Vickey Belmont in the junior high/high school office when your kids are going to miss a day of school and this includes sickness or personal trips. The telephone number is 299-1695, ext. 125.

SPORTS FEES
All sports fees and the athletic packet with an attached physical are due before the athlete will be allowed to participate in a game. Please contact Michelle Regnerus in the athletic office with any questions at 299-2695, ext. 123. CLUB LUNCHES
Any clubs and teams interested in earning money may fundraise a lunch on a Friday to raise money. Please contact Michelle Regnerus in the Athletic Office and/or call 559-299-1695, ext. 123 or 124.
