As the fall sports season heads into its final stretch, athletes across campus are pushing their limits, aiming to close out on a high note. With first-round playoff victories for the girls, highly-anticipated invitationals for cross country, and even a trip to Catalina Island for the football and cheer team, it has been an exciting week for Fresno Christian Athletics.
Girls Volleyball
The girls’ volleyball team kicked off the Central Section Playoffs with a resounding 3-0 victory over the Hoover Patriots. Junior Sarah Guglielmana led the way on the attacking end with nine kills, and also led the way on the defensive end with three blocks. The girls have their next playoff game tonight at home versus Roosevelt High School.
Girls Tennis
Continuing the trend of lady victories this week, the tennis team continued their undefeated season into the playoffs by picking up a victory over Kern Valley. Senior Natalie Sullivan got the team going by securing a doubles win with the help from Freshman Charlotte Karlson. Their next match is also at 2:00 pm today against Woodlake.
Football
This football season has been filled with lots of trials and tribulations for the Eagles. From the disbandment of the eight-man league to the loss of six impactful seniors, there has been lots of uncharted territory for a team that has only known winning for the past three years. The Eagles took a long trek down south to Catalina Island this past weekend to face Avalon High School for a non-league matchup. The Eagles fought hard with two rushing touchdowns from Junior Tycen Ramirez, but suffered a tough loss 34-16.
Senior Offensive lineman Luke Hall was impressed with the island, and thought the team cultivated an even closer bond with the long trip.
“It was a beautiful town,” Hall said. “I think every trip we go on brings us closer because we are all facing the same unfamiliar situation.”
Before the team’s ‘24-’25 campaign, there was uncertainty about playoffs due to teams in the disbanded league not wanting to play against them. With a 5-4 record (that has came from a tough schedule), the Eagles are in playoff position awaiting an opponent from the original 8-man league with the regular season officially wrapped up.
Cross Country
Cross Country competed in Clovis North’s Twilight Invitational last Friday, which featured 63 different high schools from all across California. Sophomore standout Blake Bay had another stellar performance, finishing third in the Varsity two-mile race with a time of 9:19:65.
Here are the upcoming playoff games and invitationals for fall sports:
Girls Volleyball: 6:00 p.m. Oct. 31 vs. Roosevelt
Girls Tennis: 2:00 p.m. Oct. 31 vs. Woodlake
