Who is Chloe? I am a self-proclaimed fashion enthusiast and connoisseur of clothing. My passion for fashion began at the age of five. I would pair my tutu with a sparkly tank and my favorite cowboy boots; anything to be like Hannah Montana. I would go as far as to say that Hannah Montana was my “fashion awakening.” My favorite part of the morning was waiting for the Disney Channel to come on and singing “Best of Both Worlds” with my TV.
Another influence on my fashion sense is my older sister, Emily, a Fresno Christian alumna from the class of 2014. She’s always had that effortless “cool factor.” While she was in high school, I got a front-row seat to her style every morning before school. She expressed herself from bold, colored jeans to slouchy flannels. Her cool fashion sense and even cooler personality have pushed me to find my own fashion sense and bright personality.
Since I was young, fashion has been a part of my life every day; fashion lives in my mind “rent-free.” I’m writing this column to relate to fashion lovers as well as those who are fashionably lost. My goal is to intrigue those who couldn’t care less about fashion and transition fashion enthusiasts to fashion fanatics. Let’s start by talking about some of the trends on the horizon.
September 22nd marked the first day of fall. Which means it’s time to switch up our wardrobe and transition into the new season. Fall is my favorite season, especially for fashion. I love to start a season by scrolling the Instagram feed and diving into fashion through the decades from the 1900s through the 2000s. It is so exciting when old styles come back and mix with modern ones to shape the season’s trends.

MIDI PANTS
Midi pants are extremely on trend as we transition from summer to fall. From jorts to capris, these styles offer a different, more unique look than your average pair of pants. Jorts (jean-shorts) have been extremely popular amongst the teen population for both girls and boys. Capris offer a chic European look to any basic outfit and are a fun revamp of Audrey Hepburn’s iconic look from the 1950s. I’m continuing to see this midi trend continue to be carried through fall, and it is a great option for this tepid weather. To reinvent jorts as a fall staple, you can pair them with long sleeves or opt for a thicker material to prepare for the cooler weather. Cole Fluharty, a senior at Fresno Christian, has his own personal style that influences many on campus.
“I think jorts should be a fall staple in all men’s fashion.”
POPS OF RED
There’s nothing like a simple outfit with a fun pop of color, especially for fall. Red is always in; whether it’s displayed in a bright shoe, a moody purse, or a cool hat. Fall is a great time to dive into a deeper red to set off the season’s warm tones that reflect the array of falling leaves. Keeping with the red theme, a bold red or “chili pepper red,” according to Vogue, is a captivating color to fall into this season.

POLKA DOTS
Polka dots have been showing up everywhere all year. This fun throwback from the ‘30s through the ‘50s is really showing out for 2025.
From my experience, a trend only lasts so long; will polka dots survive through the season? Senior Vivian Cheema enjoys watching the trends in fashion and incorporating them into her wardrobe.
“I love polka dots, I would wear it all the time so… I think they’re very timeless!” Cheema said.
Though polka dots still stand as a trend, I believe they will continue to make their mark as a timeless staple throughout the rest of 2025.
PREPPY STYLE
As the school season begins, there will always be that one preppy guy or girl in your class. But have they finally caught up with the trend cycle? I think so. Preppy is now cool, and looking back in time shows it always has been. Looking at the movies and shows from the 1990s-2000s. We still see style icons like Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde or Chase Crawford as Nate Archibald in Gossip Girl. You may see this style in the form of endless stripes, polo shirts, and anything and everything collared.
LEATHER
Leather is a timeless material and has always been a luxury mainstream trend. Any type of leather-light, dark, or even suede-is a fall staple everyone should have in their closet. Leather is a perfect top-layering piece as the season gets cooler, or you can wear a leather shoe like a boot as the ultimate mark of a new season. Although PETA might disagree, I prefer real animal leather because it is a material that lasts and, if well-maintained, can be passed down through generations.
As we step into fall fashion, don’t just follow fashion trends; make them your own. Whether it comes to adding a pop of red to your closet or finding a fun leather accessory, refurbishing your old clothes by adding a touch of new could be just the way to make the most of your closet and style. Remember, style is subjective; it is based on your individual perspective. So be creative and feel free to take advantage of all that this season has to offer.
