Since the new millennium, the world of Disney has consisted of CGI films and generally unmemorable cartoons. For a long while it seemed as if all hope for Disney fans was lost. However, with their newest fairytale, Disney has regained its fame.
Enchanted, the light-hearted and comedic fantasy film, has attracted audiences of all ages by revamping the Disney name. Complete with clever musical numbers and a handsome prince with shoulder pads, Enchanted has given a new twist on classic fantasies.
This story tells of Giselle (Amy Adams), a cartoon spoof of every Disney princess, who has the dream of finding her true love. She serenades her forest creatures and, after the standard “damsel in distress” scenario, she meets Prince Edward (James Marsden), the self-absorbed but likeable heir to the kingdom. In true Disney fashion, the two immediately declare their love for one another.
However, Prince Edward’s evil step-mother, Narissa (Susan Sarandon) wants to remain queen, so she concocts a plan to stop the royal wedding and rid of Giselle for good. After transforming into an old woman reminiscent of the evil witch from Snow White, she tricks Giselle and pushes her into a well.
Poor Giselle, innocent and sweet, finds herself in quite a predicament; no longer is she a cartoon character, but a real young woman, crawling out of a manhole in Times Square, wearing a massive white dress and without her prince.
When entering the streets of New York, Giselle meets divorce lawyer Robert Philip (Patrick Dempsey) and his daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey). Robert, of course, thinks she is crazy (understandable, as she continually asks them the way to the castle) while his daughter believes Giselle wholeheartedly.
Because of Morgan’s absolute certainty of Giselle’s story, Robert allows her to stay with them ? later a problem, as Robert is engaged.
After several hilarious musical numbers, one including the vermin of New York City cleaning Robert’s apartment, Giselle is reunited with Prince Edward after he travels to New York City himself to rescue her. However, Giselle finds that she may have fallen in love with the wrong prince.
The big climax takes place at a ball; Queen Narissa also has been tracking Giselle through New York City and she discovers the two, along with Robert and his fianc
