As the sun sets, students scurry around an emerging landscape, putting finishing touches on their float. As the buzzer rings for halftime, they mount their creation and prepare to reap the benefits of their labors. Welcome to homecoming.

Under the theme “The Rythm is Gonna Get You”, each float will represent a different music genre. After choosing pop, the class of ’10 worked to intertwine past and present singers.

“On our float, we’re incorporating a trio of artists/groups,” class representative Kristina Logan said. “In an effort to combine three decades of pop, we chose the musicians who most represented their time period.”

On the night when the culmination of class work will be displayed, many students arrive at the game to watch the floats. However, not all realize the work put into each creation.

“It usually takes three weeks to create a good float,” former leadership member Alyssa Powell said. “There is a lot of planning involved, and during the actual building it takes a lot of time to complete.”

Thanks to the many hours of exertion, previous performances of the ’10 class have proved successful. Never receiving last place, they scored first runner-up in ’07. However, this year the bar is set much higher because of newfound upperclassmen status.

“There’s more pressure on us to do well this year,” Zac Mizner, ’10, said. “Because we are upperclassmen and have more experience, the expectations are different.”

After success in previous years, the juniors must adjust their techniques in order to create a fresh project.

“This year, we have a lot of cool and original ideas,” Logan said. “If we can get more participation and actually portray the ideas well, then I think we can stand out among the other classes.”
