“I thought I had a good game against my opponent,” Lee said. “Even though he beat me by a lot I hit good shots and had fun.”
Lee went on the play no. 2 doubles with senior partner Tyler Graham. After the match ended in a tie, the pair lost 7-5 in the tiebreaker.
“The tiebreaker was an exciting match,” Lee said. “We started playing faster and looser and it was a fun game.”

EAGLES WIN 5TH STRAIGHT–April 2
In a rematch with league opponent Tranquillity, the Eagles registered an 8-1 victory, April 2.
“We did a good job being aggressive which is what I always try to stress to them,” head coach Eric Witters said. “We stayed in the game mentally.”
Seniors Michael Raymer and Taylor Brouwer pulled out an 8-5 win over their opponents in the No. 1 doubles match after struggling to score midway through the match.
“We were dominating the whole match and winning 5-1 at one point,” Raymer said. “Then due to lack of effort, we lost several points in a row. When it got to be 6-5, I told Taylor, ‘We’re not gonna lose another one,’ and then we just took over.”
The Eagles will next play against Caruthers, April 14.
FC DEFEATS COWBOYS ON THE ROAD–March 31
In windy conditions, the Eagles defeated Riverdale 6-3, March 31, to remain undefeated in West Sequoia League play.
First year head coach Eric Witters says most of his job is done during practice and emphasized that matches are the players’ responsibility.
“I, as a coach, instruct a little bit during the match but most of it is on the player to perform,” Witters said. “They have to stay in the game mentally and come through to win.”
TIGERS PROVE NO MATCH FOR FC–March 24
After traveling out to Tranquillity to play the Tigers on their home courts, the Eagles went on to dominate, winning the match 8-1, March 24.
Head coach Eric Witters highlighted the play of No. 2 Michael Raymer, ’09, who won his singles match, then teamed with fellow senior Tyler Graham to win the No. 1 doubles match.
“He [Raymer] is the most aggressive player on the team and also the most experienced,” Witters said. “He finds his opponents’ weaknesses and understands how to take advantage of them.”
The Eagles will next play against Riverdale, March 31.
EAGLES EDGE COAST UNION–March 20
Despite missing 3 players to a band and choir trip to San Diego, the Eagles overcame Coast Union 5-4, March 20.
Though they missed 3 seniors ? No. 2 player Michael Raymer, No. 3 Taylor Brouwer and No. 7 Luke DeGroot ? the Eagles recruited a couple of newcomers to fill the team. FC picked up juniors Landon Martens and Andrew McCormick, who now plan to stay on the team long term.
“Landon and Andrew provide depth and athleticism,” head coach Eric Witters said. “They are both good athletes and very reliable. As the season progresses, they will be given an opportunity to challenge up the ladder.”
FC registered its second win in a row as FC’s top four singles players won their matches. Freshman Brady Lee led the way winning his No. 1 singles match 8-4, freshman Alex Powell won 8-5 in No. 2 singles and senior Tyler Graham won 8-6 in No. 3 singles.
However, it was freshman Trenton Fleck’s 7-5 tiebreaker win that secured the match for FC. After Fleck tied his opponent, 7-7 in regulation, he was victorious in the tiebreaker by forcing his opponent to make late mistakes.
“I didn’t know the whole match depended on what I did,” Fleck said. “I led the whole way, but he just kept coming back on me. He was so consistent and returned tons of my hits, but I was able to hit some late winners.”
Witters said he was impressed by his No. 6 player’s determination during the decisive match.
“Trenton’s win was very important for us in this match” Witters said. “Whenever you can get good contribution from your freshmen like that, it always helps.”
The Eagles will next play against Tranquillity, March 24.
EAGLES VICTORIOUS OVER FIREBAUGH–March 17
The Eagles triumphed over Firebaugh with a score of 5-4, March 17.
FC won its matches in No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 singles, as well as in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
“Tyler Graham and Brady Lee won their doubles match, which decided the game’s outcome,” head coach Eric Witters said. “This was another close match like last week. However, they stayed mentally focused throughout the game.”
SIERRA TRIUMPHS OVER EAGLES–March 10
After traveling up the mountain, FC fell 5-4 to the Chieftains, March 10.
“This was a tough loss to Sierra,” head coach Eric Witters said. “Every match was very close and we only lost by a small margin.”
Brady Lee played a competative match in No. 1 singles, yet fell short in 1-6 and 3-6. Senior Tyler Graham, along with doubles partner Lee, came up short aginst Sierra, 7-9.
CVC DEFEATS EAGLES TO OPEN SEASON–March 5
While rain was predicted earlier in the week, the clouds stayed away in a near perfect day for tennis. But while the two teams basked in sunshine, the Cavaliers narrowly defeated the Eagles, 5-4, March 5.
In No. 1 singles, CVC’s Josh Witschi defeated Brady Lee, 8-4.
The Eagles No. 1 doubles team, composed of seniors Michael Raymer and Taylor Brouwer, also fell 8-4 to Matt Gilkey and Kevin Kornelis.
