Each year, the student leadership team plans and organizes two main events: the winter formal, Night of the Stars, (NOTS) and Sadie Hawkins. This year, Sadies will be held on April 10, at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angeles.
The event, changed at FC from a dance to a girls-ask-guys casual gathering, will feature a superhero theme. Magic Mountain’s roller coaster entertainment will be accompanied by the Hallelujah Jubilee Christian music festival
with Christian crossover bands Relient K, Thousand Foot Krutch and Britt Nicole.
A charter bus will leave campus at 9:00 a.m. and arrive back at 12:00 a.m. The cost per ticket is $50, which includes travel, park entry as well as concert admission. Lunch and dinner will also be provided.
“Our goal for Sadies is to give students an experience that they won’t forget,” senior Tatiana Fontes, ASB president, said. “It’s also a time to come together as a school and just have some fun. Not many schools are able to send students out of town for a large event; FC is really special in that way.”
According to Fontes, the cost to attend is low compared to a typical price for this type of venue.
“I’m so excited that the administration is letting us do this. It will be such a blast and the price that we are able to get for all that we are doing is awesome,” Fontes said. “It will be an event that no one should miss out on.”
Robert Foshee, leadership advisor, says this trip serves as a test for the future.
“This year Sadies is like a test run to see if we could ever do something like this again,” Foshee said. “If the students behave well then we might be able to do more school-wide trips in the future. My job is to just walk around and supervise the kids. We will have some procedures for them, as far as checking in for meals and stuff, but those are not finalized yet.”
In past years, Sadies has involved square dancing, bowling, football games and laser quest. This is the first time the event has ever been outside of the Fresno area.
“I think I might go to Sadies this year because I love Magic Mountain,” Alyssa Powell, ’10, said. “I think it would be fun to be able to go on a roadtrip with my friends. I haven’t gone to Sadies in the past because the activities are usually something that I can do anytime. This year Sadies is really versatile in that it would be just as fun to go with a group or with a date.”
According to sophomore Josh Hopper, Sadies is particularly extraordinary this year and unlike any other formal event.
“I don’t know if anyone will ask me to Sadies but I sure hope so because I want to go to Magic Mountain,” Hopper said. “Spending a whole day with someone in regular circumstances is way more fun than a formal. You get to see what they are really like instead of them just trying to look pretty or cool for two hours. I love roller coasters and I’m excited to see Relient K!”
Tickets will be for sale at lunch every day through March 26 or can be purchased through student leadership.
