In accordance with their world history curriculum, 7th grade students will recreate a 13th-century environment for the 4th annual World Market event, April 22.
High school students who received an invitation may attend the presentation, held in the Ground Zero courtyard, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
The display, covering topics from the Silk Road to the Spice Trade, will provide activities and products for students to try.
Each spring history teacher Ellen King assigns her students to work on the project over the course of months.
“Preparing for World Market has been stressful,” Daniel Campos, ’15, said. “World Market will be so much fun with all of the different booths. I’m looking forward to seeing what my classmates have done for their countries.”
Every year the market grosses more money, according to King. The class plans to give some of the extra revenue to charity.
“This year we are donating half of our profits to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School on the west side [of Fresno],” King said. “It seems like every year we continue to profit more money, so we decided as a class we would help these under-privileged children by throwing them an end-of-the-year party.”
Since World Market is a new tradition to some high school students, junior Ashlyn White looks forward to attending the festivities for the first time.
“I never participated in World Market,” White said. “When I was in 7th grade we did Medieval Market, so I’m very excited to go this year and experience what the market has to offer.”

Brooke, it was fun to watch you work your craft on the parade route again. Actually, the bands all joined together last year, too – elementary, junior high and high school. This year’s addition was the cheer squads. They all did a great job.
