A teenage boy decides to ditch his classes for the day. On his journey, he experiences numerous dilemmas and humorous events. He must overcome them to make his day fun, abstaining from trouble.
This story comes to life during the sophomore movie for Night of the Stars, annual campus formal event.
Night of the Stars has been celebrated for the past six years as each class creates a movie and unveils it. Night of the Stars becomes a major ordeal for many students as events leading up to the big night culminate. Students dress up and go all out on preparations.
“My son [Chris Schultz] first instigated the idea for the Night of the Stars,” Principal Gary Schultz said. “The kids liked to film, and it encouraged their skills and creativeness. The tradition kept growing until this day.”
The sophomore class film is a spin off of Farris Buehler’s Day Off, renamed “Danny Buehler’s Day Off”.
“Writing the script was a lot of fun,” Brittany Motte,’07, said. “It was also easier than last year because we had some guidelines to follow, since it is a spin off. But it should be interesting to see how the whole movie turns out.”
The sophomores are planning to use their experience from last year to make an improved film.
“I think the movie will turn out better than last year,” Ali Burns,’07, said. “It was easier than to produce this year because we have better general organization. I believe the movie is really funny and should entertain everyone who watches it.”
As the filming for the movie concluded, most involved felt confident about the experience.
“I had a fun time filming,” Karen Reed,’07, said. “I think we did a good job creating the film and working with others to create something of our own.”
For some participants, the most stressful part of the movie production was the filming. Organization and working with others pulled people out of their comfort zone.
“Filming was frustrating,” Jason Savage,’07, said. “Organizing everyone and everything was hard to do, and the directions for the cast kept changing.”
Most of the students agree the best part of the Night of the Stars is being able to see their hard work pay off when the movies are released.
“It will be fun to see the movie,” Sarah Bonner,’07, said. “The final product of our hard work coming together will be an exciting thing to see.”
The movies will be shown at Night of the Stars at Copper River on Feb. 12. For more information about Night of the Stars, contact leadership advisor Josh Tosland at 299-1695 ext. 152.
