Instead of traveling to Clark Intermediate’s football field each Friday night, the football program has the opportunity to play on home turf for the first time.
The North field, located near Alluvial Avenue, has been transformed to accommodate the team.
The stadium has grandstands seating 707 people and goal posts in the shape of a “T” at the moment. Full-size yellow regulation goal posts and a new scoreboard will be completed in the upcoming weeks, prior to the scrimmage against Minarets, Sept. 3.
For the 2010 season the lights will be rented, but permanent lights and a sound system are planned to be installed next year.
Brian Krigbaum, father of Clovis Christian transfer and junior quarterback Tyler, was one of the volunteers in erecting the stadium. Brian says he has always been willing to help out, so the construction of the field was one way to assist.
“The best way to get connected is to participate,” Brian said. “I have always been involved when Tyler participates in sports, and this was an opportunity to show the students that what they’re involved in is important to us as parents.”
All of the funds for the field were donated by Christianna Enterprises, who proposed the idea of building an entire new stadium.
“Their gift is intended to be a blessing to the students and families of FCS,” head coach Bonner Cunnings said, “and an advertisement to Fresno city that we are truly an amazing school that they need to know about.”
The construction of the stadium was intended to be finished before Aug. 14, when the school would host a carnival and tournament with Laton, Caruthers, Riverdale and Orosi. However, due to missing parts, work is still continuing on the project.
“It was hot out, and it was a struggle finding the pieces. But we had some gifted parents that contributed in bringing the posts up,” assistant coach Ervin Hernandez said.
Senior Andrew Evans, starting running back and linebacker, says the rush of walking out on to his team’s own stadium will be a moment to anticipate.
“We are just really excited to see the goal posts up,” Evans said. “Coming out of the locker room straight to our own field is going to be something special for our first home game.”
FC first compiled an 8-man varsity football team in the fall of 1986. In the fall of 1992, the first 11-man varsity team formed.

I am so excited about NOTS this year. I know the seniors will have the best movie we have ever had! I can’t believe that this is my last NOTS. It feels kind of odd….
