The Eagles will make their debut for their first home game on the new field against the Strathmore Spartans, Sept. 17.
The field has full-size regulation yellow goal posts, along with grandstands seating 707 people. Although the junior varsity team already played on the field in a scrimmage against the Spartan JV team, Aug. 27, this will be the first time the varsity squad will walk onto the field.
Senior tight end and linebacker Tyler Haritzalde, says he eagerly awaits the Friday night game and even though pre-game “jitters” often rise up, he has confidence in his team.
“I think it’s going to be really cool playing in front of our home fans, especially since we’re up against the Division VI champs [Strathmore],” Haritzalde said. “There’s always the jitters because you’re about to play in a football game, but I’m not that nervous because I’m confident in my team and I’m confident that we’ll pull out a win.”
All of the funds for the field were donated by Christianna Enterprises, who proposed the idea of building a stadium to the school during the summer.
Assistant coach Ervin Hernandez says he and the team take pride in their field and anticipate representing the school.
“It is a big deal to have a field, because we call it our home,” Hernandez said. “Fridays will be a different feeling because we go into our locker room, and once we get out, those Friday night lights will be waiting for us steps away. This is our home territory and we have to defend it with honor, while also being a light to those hurting.”
The JV will play against Strathmore at 5:30 p.m., while varsity will take the field against the Strathmore Spartans at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 17.
FCS students can enter the game free with their ID cards; adult tickets are $6 while seniors and students from other schools get in for $4.
