When it comes to tofu, many teens are unfamiliar, believing it to be a complicated food for vegetarians.
However, this recipe provides a simple way to cook deep-fried tofu for anyone to enjoy.
Ingredients:
1 block of tofu
1 cup of vegetable oil or olive oil
3 tablespoons of soy sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Procedures:
Step 1: Open the package of tofu and drain out all the water, unless you are using pressed tofu. Pressed tofu is usually waterless, so there is no need to drain it.
Step 2: Cut the tofu into squares, triangles or any other desired shape.
Step 3: Pour 5 tablespoons of oil into the pan. Place the pan on the stove and set it to high heat. Wait until the oil is hot enough, at least 350 degrees.
Step 4: Once the oil is hot enough, place the tofu in the pan. After about a minute, flip over the tofu for the other side to be cooked. Repeat the process until the tofu turns golden brown.
Step 5: When the tofu is fully cooked, it will have a golden tone and be harder in texture. This process will take about 10 minutes.
Step 6: Add flavor. Tofu by itself might taste plain and boring, so sauces such as soy sauce and chili hot sauce are great flavor enhancements.
Tips:
1. Tofu is thin, burning easily. In order to prevent this, pour more vegetable or olive oil whenever the pan gets dry.
2. If you want your tofu crispy, place it on a paper towel to absorb the oil and to cool it down.
Deep fried tofu provides a simple, yet healthful way to fulfill a craving for an unconventional snack.
