FC TOPS KNIGHTS, 14-7, IN HISTORICAL WIN–Sept. 23
At the second home game of the 2011 season for FC, they hosted the Stone Ridge Christian Knights (Merced, CA), and came out on top, 14-7, making school history, Sept. 23. The 2010 Eagles had not won a game on their new field, but this last Friday night FC finally tacked on the win.
The game remained scoreless until midway through the second quarter where quarterback Tyler Krigbaum, ’12, connected with receiver Sean Carter, ’12, to put the Eagles up, 7-0. However, shortly into the third quarter, Stone Ridge’s Davey Rapp, ’12, picked off Krigbaum and ran it in for six, tying the score, 7-7.
Senior Scott Jennings, who had 11 total tackles, says he just hoped to push through and pull out the win.
“During the game I was really just hoping that we could pull it off,”Jennings said. “Going into the second half, 7-0, I felt better, but they scored almost right away. It was discouraging, but forced me to work harder.”
Then, in the fourth quarter, running back Austin Rurik, ’12, who rushed for 162 yards, ran in a touchdown to put FC up, 14-7, with just over 3 minutes remaining.
“It was an exhilarating experience, I enjoyed it and had such an awesome, amazing time playing in this game,” Rurik said. “The opportunity to be able to play in the game and be able to win the first home football game on Fresno Christian turf was just an overwhelming experience.”
FC was able to hold on and secure the win as coach Dan Stockton says this was a monumental moment for his team.
“It’s a big deal because it’s history,” Stockton said. “It was a big game for us, they were better than we thought they were, we played our hearts out and we made a lot of mistakes, but we never quit, just bounce back from each mistake.”
Jennings says that in order for them to win their next game against Minarets, Sept. 30, they need to continue to progress in tackling and executing blocks.
“We still need to work on our defense because there was a lot of missed tackles and on offense we need to learn our assignments better to open up lanes for the running back,” Jennings said.
The Eagles will next travel to play Minarets, Sept. 30.

Even though my high school career is over, I still have dreams about not being able to get my locker open, making me late for class.
