From the licorice lagoon to the gummy hills, the class of 2012 aims to impress audiences with a “sweet” presentation of Candy Land for this years’ homecoming theme: “It’s Game Time!”, Oct. 14.
With homecoming drawing near, the students feel the pressure to finish their high school float building career with a “bang.”
The senior class immediately began work on this year float, which will include objects from the various lands within Candy Land. After discussions as to what the float would consist of, the class decided that their float will be a cross between the classic Candy Land board and the new designed game.
After winning their freshmen year, ’08, the seniors had high expectations for the following years. Although the seniors did not receive a first place title the past two years, but rather second, the class hopes to have fun and create a creative and detailed float for homecoming.
Since it is the seniors’ last time ever to produce a class float, they look forward to leaving an impression amongst the underclassmen.
“We’re working hard to make this our best float ever, because it is our last year,” Zed Fries. “We went all out on the building, even though I wanted Monopoly to begin with. I think we’re going to do good with Candy Land and pull out all the stops to make it awesome.”
Although not every senior chose Candy Land, Celeste Camacho is excited to participate with this theme because of all of the possibilities within the particular game.
“I’m excited about homecoming, because we get to dress up, have fun and get to really see all of our hard work pay off,” Camacho said. “It’s amazing to see all the queens, princesses and all the other class floats to see what they’ve been working hard on.”
Initially, the class had a decent participation from the class, but encountered a bump in participation when many students were busy with SAT test taking. After a brief encouragement speech, the senior class was able to pull out large number of participation for the last weekend of float building.
While many share the excitement of float building, others have busy schedules, which contain outside activities that take presidence over class involvement.
“Well, I’m usually busy on the weekends, but I know my class is going to do a great job,” Ryan Neufeld said. “I would help, but I don’t really want to get in the way.”
The 27th annual homecoming event will take place on the North Field beginning at 6:45 p.m.
