VOLLEYBALL, 2011
EAGLES DEFEAT COWGIRLS, 3-0–Oct. 4
The Eagles played the Riverdale Cowgirls for their first home game and finished in a shutout, 3-0, Oct. 4. During the first set, the Eagles won, 25-15 and continued to dominate in the following matches, 25-17 and 25-13.
Captain Katelyn Miller says that she is satisfied with the result of the game and believes their effort as a team paid off.
“We played really well and came together as a team,” Miller said. “There could not be a better way to start off league; I could not be happier. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season brings.”
Although junior Kristen Rosenthal is glad that the team won, there are some areas to work on, she says.
“I felt like we played moderately well today,” Rosenthal said. “Even though I feel like we can still play better, it was good to win the first home game. But we should have won by more. I feel like this is the least competitive team we have played so far, so a win was necessary.”
Head coach Jeff MacNeill says that he is impressed with the way the team was able to comeback from two previous losses against Buchanan’s JV and Sierra to defeat Riverdale. He is glad that the team is able to communicate and become one while playing.
“The team was fun to watch last night,” MacNeill said. “They were not playing as six individuals but as one team and it showed in the outcome of the game.”
The Eagles will next travel to Tranquillity High School, Oct. 6.
