LETTER: SOPA a stained chalk line

Government censorship, a direct violation of constitutional rights could, without compromise leads a slow demise of our nations privacy. The Stop Online Piracy Act, otherwise known as SOPA is one of these violations to our constitutional rights.

There are alternative bills that in essence, can provide the same purpose as SOPA just not as drastically. The OPEN act is one such bill. The OPEN act is a less radical version of SOPA. The OPEN act would allow copyright owners to submit complaints to the Unites States Courts about copyright infringements. The OPEN act has the support of many prominent websites: Google, Facebook, and Zynga.

As teens, we spend most of our life on the Internet from social media to online gaming. The Internet is not just a tool but also a toy. With certain media websites shut down, the whole way we communicate in the 21st century would be gone.

Then injustices of SOPA will not just change criminals lives, but drastically affect the way that our entire world communicates. It?s not that online piracy should not be stopped, but it should be contained.
