This Friday, March 23, fans will gather for football games on the North Field, under stadium lights, as a part of the annual Powder Puff game. Female participants will practice during lunch throughout the week, in hope to defeat other classes in an athletic tournament.

At 6 p.m., all four class teams will gather at FC to begin warmups and mentally prepare themselves for the matches. To begin the evening, the field will be split in two, with the seniors facing the freshman and the juniors playing against the sophomores. During halftime, male cheerleaders from each class will preform practiced routines for the crowd. The event is proposed to end around 8 p.m.

Student Leadership Adviser, Jane Gillespie anticipates a large crowd and entertaining evening due to the event’s simulation of a regular school football game.

“I hope we have the same turnout as last year and that there’s enough girls on every team to have good games,” Gillespie said. “I’m excited to see the senior team and [see] if anybody can beat them. Everyone needs to get out there because it’s going to be a fun night!”

As a first time participant, Zariah Davis, ’14, expects entertaining games, and wants to do her best as a defender.

“I’m expecting to have fun and knock people over,” Davis said. “I think the team is good; I hope we work together and have a blast. I just want to ravage everyone and be a beast.”

Since Ashley Garcia, ’15, recently transferred to FC, the idea of Powder Puff is exciting.

“I think it’s gonna be crazy, it’s really cool that all the classes get to play football, meet new people and bond,” Garcia said. “We are pretty darn beast and I think we are gonna beat everyone. We just want to win since the freshmen team hasn’t won in a long time. Our goal is to beat the seniors.”

After partaking in the event for three years, Julianne King, ’12, aims to spend this year’s Powder Puff enjoying the experience.

“It’s interesting because we’ve already won the past two years so everyone thinks we’re going to win,” King said. “I guess we could, and I enjoy winning, but I just think it’s fun. We don’t need practice, we’re pros.”
