COYOTES DOWN EAGLES–March 15
On March 15, FC played Madera High School at the Madera Country Club. The Eagles, who played one man down, lost 227-253.
Despite an even-par effort by senior Jeff Roseth, FC came up short. Freshmen Colby Lee did not play due to a personal engagement, and the Eagles had to use all five players’ scores.
Although Coach Jeff Hopper was disappointed by the loss, he feels the team played well under the tough circumstances.
“We had to play this match short-handed, without Colby at the number four position,” said Hopper. “We hung tight, leading the match through four players, but the Coyotes caught us in the end. Still, it was nice to get a chance to play a new course.”
Tyler Zaentz and Jason Kim provided solid scores of 42 and 46, respectively, for the short-handed Eagles.
“We had especially good showings today from Jeff, who shot an even-par 36 on a course he?d never seen before, and Jason came in at 46, his new personal best for nine holes,” Hopper said. “I think everyone is feeling that they are getting closer to the kind of performances they want to post consistently, so I see a lot of willingness among the players to keep improving their games with extra practice.”
The Eagles will next play Yosemite at Sunnyside Country Club, March 20.
