EAGLES WIN FIRST MATCH OF SEASON–March 22
FC traveled to play against the Firebaugh Eagles in the first match of the season, March 22. It was battle of the Eagles as both teams came out hard in their singles matches. The games were close the entire day but in the end, FC squeezed by with a 5-4 victory.
Nervousness was in the air as FC began their matches. Firebaugh had already played multiple games during their pre-season. Due to different reasons, FC did not play in any pre-season games. The teams played standard 8 game pro-sets with no add. They played both singles and doubles matches.
The Eagles team consists of two freshmen, two sophomore, two juniors and three seniors. Rob Foshee is returning as FC’s head coach.
Foshee is proud of his team for defeating their opponents for the first time in three years. He says it was a good start to the season.
“I think Firebaugh is rebuilding this year so it was a good first match for us,” Foshee said. “We haven’t beaten them for three years so anytime we beat a good team like that we are excited.”
Junior Brandon Porter, who plays No. 3 singles, shares his thoughts going into the match.
“I was really anxious,” Porter said. “Firebaugh was a tough team last year. I didn’t know if we were going to pull it off.”
Porter says it took a few games before he really started to play with confidence. He ended up winning his singles match 8-2. Porter and doubles partner Brady Lee, ’12, won their match 8-0.
“I feel like once we got a couple games going (especially in our doubles match) we came out really strong and we kept our momentum going. I think we executed well the things we went over in practice.
Foshee says he liked what he saw during the match. He knows there are definitely aspects that the team needs to improve on, but it was good first experience.
“We still have a lot to work on being our first match,” Foshee said. “We won’t know until the first round of league how we compete with everybody but it was a good start.”
The Eagles will next play a home match against Caruthers, March 27.

Seeing the kids from Break the Barriers perform was such an inspiration and offered people the hope to persevere through any adversity they may face! Mr. Harris is amazingly talented and it was incredible to see the love of Jesus displayed through him to these children.
