FC IMPROVES TO 1-0 IN LEAGUE–April 10
For the first game of the West Sequoia League, FC took on the Riverdale Cowboys, April 10. The Eagles carried their momentum from their third place finish at the Fowler Easter Classic, April 3, to defeat Riverdale 12-1.

Six lower classmen started this game for FC and were under the pitching of freshman JD Freitas. He pitched four innings, had seven strikeouts and only two hits against him, allowing one run.

“It was a little tough because I haven’t pitched a lot in my life, but I think I did pretty good,” Freitas said. “I actually found out that day I was going to pitch, but I have been practicing. I was pretty nervous because I didn’t want to start off the game bad and put our team in a bad position, but once I got out their the nerves just kind of left me.”

FC only went up one run in the first, but their rally came in the third and fourth inning, scoring a total of nine runs. The Eagles’ seniors took the lead on the offensive side with Trevor York, 3-3, Ryan Neufeld, 2-3, and Brian Kinghorn, 3-4.

Freshman first basemen, Lance Henderson, who had two walks on the day, says the team did well at playing their game and not the other team’s.

“Well my goals were trying to get a hit, just play my best and not mess up,” Henderson said. “As a team we wanted to win of course, but moreso play our game, our tempo and not slow down to our opponent.”

The Eagles will next travel to play Tranquillity in a non-league match, April 12.
