During the first day of the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA)/Journalism Education Association (JEA) National High School Journalism Convention at the Washington State Convention Center, The Feather staff attended various sessions to help improve the functionality of the paper, April 13.
The main session that The Feather attended was the Round Table discussion under the direction of members from The Paly Voice. Throughout the hour, senior Co-Editor-in-Chief Nick Avery answered a series of questions from the audience along with other editors from various Pacemaker Finalist papers around the nation.
Proceeding the session, the staff grabbed lunch at Emmett Watson’s Oyster Bar in Pike Place Market. During lunch staffers choose meals ranging from shrimp and chips to clam chowder, while advisor Greg Stobbe ate the popular oysters.
Then in the evening the staff explored the Seattle Center, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary since the 1962 Seattle Worlds Fair. While there the staff saw the famous Space Needle and other unique sculptures representing local culture.
Once they finished this venture, the staff ate pizza at a local eatery, Zeeks Pizza. Options for this famous pie included ultimate pepperoni, Alfredo chicken and bbq chicken, which were all tried by the staff.
The Feather will commence the trip tomorrow with various presentations during the convention and an award ceremony that will announce Online Pacemaker Awards.
