HOST RIVERDALE FALLS TO FC–April 27
FC previously took on Riverdale at home, April 3, but now traveled to the home of the Cowboys for the start of the second part of league play, April 27.
The Eagles put up the first run of the game in the first, 1-0, but the score remained at that until the fourth. Second basemen Aaron Dewolf, ’15, says the team came into the game somewhat overconfident.
“You could tell on the bus ride and in warm ups we weren’t really that worried about it [the game] and were confident,” Dewolf said. “It kind of showed in the first couple of innings because we weren’t playing all that great. Then our coach got on us and we played better in the second half of the game.”
From the fourth on, FC reasserted their dominance, building up to a four run lead, winning 7-3. The Eagles seniors led on offense again as Tyler Krigbaum went 3-4, RBI, Adam Wood, 2-4, RBI, double, and Austin Rurik, 3-3, RBI.
On the defensive side, junior JP Caprioglio pitched the fifth and the sixth, striking out two batters and had no hits against him; he also batted 1-4. He says the team is continually improving, but still has room to grow.
“There’s still a lot to improve on for offense and of course there are the one’s who are capable and will get the job done,” Caprioglio said. “I think we’re all capable though, it’s just a matter of confidence and a lot of us lack that. It’s also a matter of work ethic; how hard you work at practice.”
Since the last game against Tranquillity was rained out, FC will play them away in a double-header, May 1. Dewolf says he hopes this will boost their confidence for the next two games against Caruthers and Fowler.
“I just want to go out there and hopefully get a big win to get our confidence up,” Dewolf said, “because we have Caruthers and Fowler, the two teams we lost to. So if we can just make these two games confidence builders it will really help.”
