REDCATS SQUEEZE PAST FC IN SEVENTH–May 8
Coming into this game the Eagles were 1-1 against the Fowler Redcats and FC was aiming to pull ahead in this third game, May 8.
Although FC struggled on offense as they only had a total of four hits, they kept themselves in the game through their defense. Starting pitcher JD Freitas, ’15, only allowed one run in the first three innings, while FC’s offense was able to score two runs, going up 2-1.
Fowler was not to be silenced, however, by the sixth inning the game was tied at 3-3. Junior JP Caprioglio, who hit 2-3, says he and the team made several biting errors, allowing Fowler to knock in a run and win 4-3.
“The way we were playing we should have won,” Caprioglio said. “We were on; we were the better team, but they just got the better calls and we made some errors. I had a few errors which should have been routine plays and it put runners in scoring position.”
Freitas says even though they lost he was satisfied with how he did personally against the number one team in their league.
“I was expecting that I might get a little bit of time because some of our pitchers’ arms were a little sore,” Freitas said. “I was hoping to throw strikes and get outs and I think for the most part I did what I wanted to do.”
With the final games of the season coming up, Caprioglio says they have to keep pressing forward.
“We just gotta keep fighting because we’re clearly a good team and we just need to play like it,” Caprioglio said.
The Eagles will next travel to play Parlier for their final league game of the season, May 11.
