FC played against the Sierra Chieftains, Sept. 11. After winning the previous game against Stone Ridge Christian, the Eagles were eager to face the Chieftains. In the first game, the Chieftains dominated by digging every hit and block, defeating the Eagles, 25-17. In the second game, the Chieftains continued to hold the Eagles down with strong serves. This prohibited FC from attacking and the Eagles were defeated, 25-8. In the final game, FC came close, but lost, 25-19.

According to freshman middle blocker Olivia Quebe, No. 3, the game was a beneficial experience for the team, since it exposed the areas the team needs to work on. Quebe believes that it is crucial to practice basics and focus during practice.

“This game definitely exposed our flaws,” Quebe said. “We now know what we need to do in order to win. We also have to go back to the basics by practicing our serves, digging every ball and working together as a team. We cannot make small mistakes during practice, because we might do the same thing during games.”

After losing the game against the Sierra Chieftains, FC participated in the Sunnyside Tournament and played against Hanford Bullpups, Sept. 15. In the first game, both teams rallied and played a close game. However, the Bullpups defeated the Eagles by communicating on the court, 25-21. After losing by 4 points, FC tried to defeat the Bullpups by changing game plans. Despite their effort, FC lost, 25-16, in the second game due to lack of communication and their inability to serve.

Sophomore Gabriela Siqueiros, No. 14, says team unity is crucial when playing a team sport.

“We need to unite as a team,” Siqueiros said. “Because no matter how good we are individually, it won’t matter if we can’t put our talents together and work as one. We just need to help and correct each other when mistakes are made.”

FC’s next match is currently to be announced on Sept. 21.
