Fresno City College (FCC) will administer the college placement test for seniors in both English and math. The test will be held in room 627 from 9 to 11 a.m., Jan. 31.
There are no fees for taking this test, but students interested must sign up in the high school office to help the school administration prepare the amount given. Seniors must be enrolled at a local community college for the upcoming school year in order to take the test.
The assessments are to properly place students in certain levels of studies, and to gauge students’ skills needed for community college.
Academic Adviser Michelle Warkentin informs seniors who plan to attend a community college that they must take the placement test.
“It is required for any students who apply to a community college [to take the placement test],” Warkentin said. “The English placement test is used to determine which English class students will be placed in for their freshman year of college if going to a community college.”
The test is recognized by other State Center Community District campuses such as Willow International, Madera, Reedley and Oakhurst centers.
Senior Miriam DeWolf feels excited about the upcoming test, and knows junior college is a great step in pursuing her career.
“I feel excited about taking the test because it means I’m one step closer to getting the career I want.” DeWolf said. “Junior college would be a big help in preparing me for college.”
Senior Brandon McCormick feels that junior college would not fit the career he is planning to major in, and will not be taking the test.
“I feel like a two year college for me wouldn’t be the right way to go,” McCormick said. “I want to be a pediatrician, so starting off in a four year college would make things easier for me than being in a two year college, and then transferring.”
Students are recommended to arrive early for the test, bring a #2 pencil, a photo ID and to know their SCCCD ID number.
