BOYS’ SOCCER SPORT SHORTS, 2012-13–

Be sure to visit the 2012-13 boys’ soccer schedule, home page, or check out Maxpreps.com. FC is currently 0-8 in the West Sequoia League and 1-15-1 overall as of Feb. 5. The Eagles will next travel to play the Riverdale Cowboys.

MUSTANGS PULL PAST EAGLES, 1-0
For the second time this season, the Eagles played the Minaret Mustangs, Feb. 5. The score remained 0-0 at the end of the first half but the Mustangs scored ten minutes after the half, which ultimately led to the Mustangs 1-0 victory.

Traditionally on Senior Night, the boy’s soccer team wears their 1983 retro jerseys to celebrate the soccer team’s long tradition on the Eagle campus. The team sets aside its regular school colors of maroon and white for a single game.

Head coach Matthew Markarian says that the team played with everything they had but was not able to get a goal in the net. Although the Eagles did not score, Markarian says that it was a great night to honor the seniors.

“We played hard like we always do, but overall it was disappointing,” Markarian said. “It was nice to play a final home game in front of a nice crowd. Our team has made great improvements. With the freshmen goal keeper Bailey Brogan and freshmen Josh Carter, along with incoming players, I feel the future is bright for our program. Even though we lose a valuable part of our seniors, J.P. Caprioglio, Juan Ruelas, Dominic Mendoza, and Nathan Bender, I look forward to the years to come.”

According to freshman Andrew Moore, he was disappointed that they lost on Senior Night and did not even have a goal to show for it.

“We played alright for most of the game,” Moore said. “We let down on offense and thusly finished the game without a goal. It was pretty disappointing for Senior night but as a team we played well together we just have to use every break away to our advantage.”

Sophomore Ben Callahan says the team played well but needs to improve on their offense.

“As a team, we all functioned well,” Calahan said. “We all did our part but when it came to the end, we just weren?t able to finish. For the next and final game we can learn to finish the ball and take up every opportunity we have on goal.”

The Eagles will next travel to Riverdale to face off the Riverdale Cowboys in their final league game, Feb. 8.
