As spring season comes nearer, the Eagles varsity golf team prepares for their first match. Similar to last year’s golf season, the Eagles will travel to Madera Municipal golf course to play against Kerman High School for the opening round, Feb. 28.
Due to losing last year’s captains and ’12 alumni, Tyler Zaentz and Jeff Roseth, coach Jeff Hopper expects changes in the team but looks forward to seeing various results with the new team members.
“Our team has practiced hard to compete against different schools and I am expecting to see good results,” Hopper said. “My goal this year overall is to improve the players’ golf game, character and relationship with God.”
This is the first year for junior Alec Culver, ’14, to play golf in a team. However, he remains positive to the first match against Kerman.
“I want to improve my game and go out to the golf course to have some fun,” Culver said. “I always wanted join golf, and when I figured out that our school had a golf team, I decided to join.”
For Christian Saylor, ’14 also a junior, being in a golf team is a brand new experience. He hopes to make the most out of the season this year and looks forward to his first match.
“I see a lot of potential in our team and I feel that we can do great this year,” Saylor said. “I hope to have a lot of fun while playing competitive golf.”
As of right now, there are seven total players, five being from FC and two homeschoolers: Culver, Saylor, Chris Grossman, ’15, Jason Kim, ’14, Trevor Beal, ’15, Daniel Cliff, ’15, and Davis Borrego.
