Are y’all ready for Sadies? It’s that time of year again and Sadies is just around the corner. The slogan for this year’s Sadies is ‘Saddle up for Sadies.’ The theme is a country fair, filled with carnival games, barn dancing and hay rides. A caller will be at the event teaching the students how to line dance, April 13.
The event will be held at 10510 East Kings Canyon Road in Sanger, CA, 93657, and will take place from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. All students are responsible for driving themselves to Sadies and being picked up at the end of the night.
In addition to the dancing, there will be a country fair where students can find entertainment if they do not want to dance. There will be ten booths set up where students can win tickets that can earn prizes like stuffed animals and candy. There will also be four or five bounce houses where students can have fun and enjoy the festivities.
Throughout the second semester of the school year, student leadership starts planning for Sadies right away. This preparation begins with discussing the budget for the event and determining where the event will take place, as told by leadership teacher Robert Foshee.
“We start prepping right after Night of the Stars (NOTS) ends,” Foshee said. “So, we begin in February and the students in the class research and pick different venues for the event and prepare presentations in the class to share their ideas.”
After discussing the various options as a class, the leadership students present each idea in different groups in order for the whole class to make a decisions based off of the more detailed information suggested.
“The students discuss their thoughts and then after much consideration the theme is based off their presentations,” Foshee said. “Leadership choses which one they think the students will like the best. We try to to keep the cost as low as possible; we don’t make any money off the event and our goal is just to try to get the whole high school involved.”
This year is thought to be fun and very eventful, according to Foshee. A lot of people are donating their time and their products to help make Sadies the best it can be. A couple donators are California Jumping, and Sound and Light Solutions; there are many others who donate their time as well.
“I think this years Sadies is awesome,” Foshee said “We had people donate some stuff that will help it to be a lot of fun with out the price being high its going to be a cool theme theres carnival games, barbecue food and there will also be a hay ride. So I think overall it will be a fun time”
Since FC’s Sadie Hawkins is different from other school’s, senior Jordan Boudreau finds the activities better than a normal public school dance. There are multiple events to do at FC Sadies than there are at a regular dance.
“I like having an event instead of a dance,” Boudreau said. “I’ve been to dances and things that other schools have done and it’s kind of awkward because theres not much to do. You go to that school’s gym and everyone is dancing, which is fun but about all there is to do. Our school tries to incorporate multiple things for students to do so I think thats awesome.”
Each year student leadership has to be creative and think of different things to do that are different from the previous year. To be original each year can be quite the challenge. It takes a lot of time to think of new ideas but the challenge is also worth it as told by leadership student Rayna Endicott, ’14. She discusess how the leadership team pulls off something new every year.
“It is a challenge to think of something new each year,” Endicott said. “We start prepping for Sadies after we plan our formal. The leadership team is always at work trying to plan the best event possible for the students. It takes a lot of time prepping for the event and we have to make sure that we chose an event that is affordable and the students will enjoy as well.”
This years Sadies will be new and unique just like the rest of the years as told by Endicott. Students have the option to dress up like the theme and dress more western like cowboys or they can just match in what ever they decide to wear.
“I’m excited for this years Sadies,” Endicott said. “About four years ago Sadies was at a barn too.The team this year decided to reconsider that idea and started thinking outside the box of how to revise a barn theme. That lead to us coming up with the idea of a country fair and having carnival games, along with line dancing. We love the idea and we hope the students will too.”
Junior Bobby Christopher thinks that it will be interesting to try a new activity at Sadies this year and looks forward to seeing how it turns out.
“I think that I’ll like the new venue because it’s something different that we really haven’t ever done before,” Christopher said. “It will be interesting to see how it goes but it sounds fun.”
At the beginning of the event, alumna Ellie Mullins, ’09, and her father, Paul Mullins, will be taking pictures for those who bring their picture form and $35.
