FC DEFEATS DOS PALOS MUSTANGS–April 9
The Eagles varsity tennis team defeated the Dos Palos Mustangs 5-4 at home, April 9. This was the Eagles’ first match, since their meet against Firebaugh was cancelled due to rain, April 4.
Despite starting slowly, the Eagles managed to pull out the win. Dos Palos won four of the first five singles matches, forcing FC to win all four remaining matches. However, wins in sixth singles and all three doubles matches gave the Eagles an unlikely victory.
Sophomore Andrew Hindes played fourth singles and second doubles. He noted that the opening win was a positive start to the Eagles’ season.
“We managed to fight and get our first victory on the first game of the season,” Hindes said. “It gave us high hopes for the rest of the season. I lost my first game, but it was a learning experience, and I went on to win my doubles match.”
Tennis coach Robert Foshee agreed that starting the season with a win was encouraging.
“It was a great first match,” Foshee said. “We are just starting to figure things out as a team and learn things about each other. I think to come back when we were down three matches, was a good start.”
Nick Morrison, ’15, won his sixth singles match, contributing to the Eagles’ comeback. He enjoyed his first tennis match as an Eagle.
“I think we did awesome,” Morrison said. “I won 8-6, and I had a lot of fun. The guy I played was really nice. It was good to get a win, because it would have been bad to start out 0-1.”
The Eagles’ will next travel for a match against the Coalinga Horned Toads, April 11.
