The campus Adoration ensemble and Celebration choir performed “The Star Spangled Banner” at Chukchansi Park, April 20-21. The Adoration ensemble performed on Saturday, April 20, while the Celebration choir performed on Sunday, April 21.
Music Director, Michael Ogdon received a call from the Grizzly office, inviting his students to perform “The Start Spangled Banner.”
“February of this year we got a call from the Grizzly’s office,” Ogdon said. “They were asking if we wanted to perform ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ again at the Grizzly Stadium, because our ensemble went last year during Mother’s Day and did a great job performing.”
Ogdon enjoyed the performances held by the ensemble and choir, especially with so many spectators to watch his classes sing.
“On Saturday night, the ensemble sang for what turned out to be a full house because of the ring replica giveaway,” Ogdon said. “Sunday, we brought the whole choir and sang around the home plate; there were about 70 choir students there and it was fun because we just went for it.”
Junior Lauren Purvis loved the crowd and enjoyed singing the national anthem with her ensemble.
“It was really fun because on Saturday the stadium was packed with people,” Purvis said. “It was fun performing in front of all those people.”
Junior Amanda Menes thought it was fun to perform with the Celebration choir outside of school with her classmates.
“I thought it was interesting because we sang as a high school choir, and you wouldn’t normally expect that at a baseball game,” Menes said. “It was really fun to see students out of school perform at the baseball game.”
Junior Jon Agao enjoyed the experience, and feels excited about performing next year.
“It was really fun performing on Sunday,” Agao said. “I’d love to go again sometime next year. We got to go down into the dugout and then make our way onto the baseball diamond, where we sang the national anthem.”
