There are no additional stats available online for tennis. FC is currently 3-2 overall and 3-2 in West Sequoia League as of April 16. The Eagles will next play the Fowler Redcats, April 17.

EAGLES ESCAPE WITH CLOSE WIN, 5-4
The FC tennis team traveled to Riverdale to face the Cowboys, April 16. The match was played in windy conditions, but the Eagles escaped with a narrow win, 5-4. The team lost several close singles matches, but a victory in second doubles by senior Brandon Porter and sophomore Andrew Hindes secured the decisive fifth victory.

Coach Robert Foshee emphasized the importance of doubles matches to the Eagles’ victory.

“Riverdale played a good match,” Foshee said. “We were really getting into league matches, and just enough people stepped up to get the win. This year it looks like our strength is doubles, and that was evident at Riverdale. We won on a doubles match.”

Brandon Porter won both his singles match and doubles, despite some trouble with the wind.

“The wind was really bad,” Porter said. “It really affected the way I played; I had to change my strategy. Also, the guy I played was left-handed, so that was a challenge. It was definitely an interesting match.”

Sophomore Jordan Castro noted that the conditions made playing the match difficult. His third doubles team won, earning an undefeated record so far in league.

“Riverdale was a decent team, but the real problem was the wind,” Castro said. “We just adjusted better and played better at the net, so we won. Hopefully we can continue to win and help out the team.”

The Eagles will next travel to play the Fowler Redcats, April 17.
